In this paper, the author tried to explain the phenomena of resistance in psychoanalytic treatment under the subtitles of definition of resistance, resistance in the treatment and defense in everyday life, reasons of resistance, various manifestations of resistance, transference resistance, and treatment of resistance. The author emphasized the followings in dealing with resistance£ºFirst, the resistance must be explored and interpreted rather than gotten rid of. Second, resistance is thought to be a dynamic phenomenon which is thought to be the patient¡¯s efforts to maintain equilibrium especially in psychoanalysis or analytic treatment. Third, one and important aim of resistance is to get rid of painful emotions which could be brought by psychoanalysis or analytic psychotherapy. Fourth, we have to pay attention not only to overt resistance phenomena but also covert resistance phenomena, but the signs of resistance could not be understood by resistance per se. Fifth, dealing with transference resistance is the core of psychoanalysis and analytic psychotherapy.
